Overview

T-Shaped professional development consists of three competencies, developing the whole self, building the "five-stack" of professional/business skills and defining and managing your professional expertise. The "top of the T" consists of the whole self and professional/business skills. The "bottom of the T" is your professional expertise.

For the past three decades we've consistently focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skill development, putting a great deal of energy around "bottom of the T" development. This model is failing us in the face of rapid change and disruption. A professional can no longer base their entire career on a "bottom of the T" skill set which may be disrupted in six years. Disruption breeds complexity which introduces chaos if an organization doesn't have the skills to work through the complexity as a team. In this two-day training, you will dive deep into the concepts necessary for moving from an I-shaped to a T-shaped professional.

  5. Professional/Business Skills (right side of the "top of the T")
    • Emotional Intelligence (EQ) refers to our abilities to recognize, control and assess emotions. While research suggests that many individuals are born with many innate EQ traits, there is ample evidence that they can be learned and strengthened. We introduce EQ and its four core skills:
      • Self-Awareness

    • Conflict Management & Dealing with Difficult People: This module combines two of the most passionate topics related to working with others.
      • The first portion of this section focuses on the good, the bad and the ugly of conflict management.

      • The second part emphasizes identifying the different types of difficult behavior and effective tactics for dealing with difficult behavior.
