As one of the ASPE instructor team’s most senior experts, Owen Winn develops and delivers learning content and training on critical technology topics for people in tech-enabled job roles. He helps teams and people understand the business drivers, use cases and job impacts of emergent technology, and teaches teams the skills to use it. Often one of the first engineering/management consultants to adopt new engineering tools and articulate business cases around them, he was an early cloud architect and one of the first to teach major tech vendor certification classes on system architectures that are now industry standard. Owen was also one of the first on our team to teach both the cultural and technology tools to enable large-scale DevOps practices, enabling high-performing teams to adapt to the powerful automation and delivery tools most organizations are now seeking to implement. He is also an early evangelist of blockchain technology and the distributed architectures that underpin cryptocurrencies, smart contracts, decentralized ledgers, and many use cases related to supply chain, legal and financial services. Owen has designed datacenters, cloud architectures, and learning products on computing and systems for more than 15 years, and taught new technology skillsets to teams around the world.
As a trainer and presenter, Owen's style is engaging, dynamic and relatable. It is not just the depth of his technical expertise that makes him a great trainer; it is his ability to keep his learners highly engaged on technology content while stimulating excitement around what is possible using today's technology tools and environments.
Recent engagements: At IBM, Owen was a senior managing consultant on commercial security and privacy. Most recently, he has developed use case learning for blockchain-enabled applications and taught enterprise teams for ASPE’s Techtown lab on DevOps-related technology topics: automation tools, cloud and IaaS topics, and software and IT service delivery. He is a long-running OpenStack evangelist for RackSpace, and was a primary designer of RackSpace’s Cisco/VMware/EMC cloud solution for their training lab environment, consisting of hundreds of virtual machines and a dedicated architecture for training and learning services. In Tokyo, Owen was a global IPVPN project manager, where he planned, tested and deployed complex network configurations across an international ATM service provider’s backbone.
