A test manager once described how many in business are vaguely religious about software testing. They kind of believe that testing is important, but they cannot tell you anything more than that: what it is or why it is important. Many testers don't really know much more. When they become testers, they are told to, "GO FIND BUGS!" Not so much on why, or where, or how. This presentation discussed why test certification might help with these problems. Jamie Mitchell also discussed some theories of testing: what it is--and maybe more importantly--what it is not.
