Jamie Mitchell brings over 40 years of testing experience, both hardware and software. He is a pioneer in the test automation field, having been creating automated testing since 1991. He has worked with many of the available test automation tools since the first Windows tools were released with Windows 3.0. He has written test tools for several platforms; for Windows, he developed the Test – Automation Programming Interface (T-API), a leading edge test automation solution that increased the flexibility, ease of use, and ROI of automated tools.
His specialty is increasing the productivity of automation and test teams who are using industry standard tools through innovative ideas and custom tool extensions. In addition, Mr. Mitchell also provides training, mentoring, and expert technical support in all aspects of software process, software testing and automation.
Jamie is the former Lead Automation Engineer for American Express Distributed Integration Test/Worldwide, and has successfully architected and implemented test automation projects for many top companies including American Express, Mayo Clinic, IBM AS/400 division, ShowCase Corporation and others. He spent time as the Director of the International Institute for Software Testing. He has also participated as a code developer in several Windows projects and the AS/400 operating system.
Mr. Mitchell holds a Master of Computer Science degree from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. He holds the Certified Software Test Engineer certification from QAI and also holds the Certified Tester Advanced Level from ISTQB. He was an instructor and board member of the International Institute of Software Testing (IIST), and a contributing editor, technical editor and columnist for the Journal of Software Testing Professionals. He is a charter member of the Austin Workshop on Test Automation, and a regular speaker on testing and automation at several international conferences, including SQE, QAI and PSQT. He was a member of the Technical Advisory Group for ASTQB (American Software Testing Qualifications Board) as well as a member of the Advanced Working Group that rewrote the Advanced Syllabus and body of knowledge for the ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board.)
Jamie is also the co-author (with Rex Black) of Advanced Software Testing, Vol. 3 (Guide to the ISTQB Advanced Certification as an Advanced Technical Test Analyst.)
